Nordlys

Hello there,

Long time no see! 😉 I have been MIA for a while. But here I am. Today I present to you my favorite green lady from Norway. The magical Northern lights. She paid me a visit last night at the cabin in Lyfjord and gave an awesome dance show. It was a bit cold to stand there, witness her performance and take pictures.  But it was worth it.  😍

So, here are some pictures of aurora borealis I managed to take with my cell phone camera. This is one of the primary reasons why you should visit Northern Norway.

With love from Norway!

Weekend at Lyfjord

Standard

We went to Lyfjord after two months. If you have been reading my blog, then you know how much I love this place.  It was a delightful break from the stressful studies and work life.

The house where we stay, stands by the sea and is further away from all the other houses in Lyfjord center. The nearest neighboring house is 5 mins walk away. There is a barn, an outside toilet,  a boathouse and a storage room along with a two story main house. It’s an old Norwegian house so, there is no running water in the tap. However, the most fun part of living here is to fetch water from the nearby river.

Thankfully, there is an electric stovetop/oven and firewood oven to make food. Heating system works fine in the ground floor rooms. There is also an old TV with national channel NRK that we love to watch. I personally love listening to the old radio in the kitchen. Since there is no bathrooms in the house, we don’t shower when we are there.  That’s the typical Norwegian cabin life: outside toilet and no shower.  😉

Nevertheless, I find living in Lyfjord very calming and rejuvenating. On this trip, I realized how much I actually enjoy baking. We baked ginger cookies and bollers.

And the bonus point,  of course was the amazing dance by my favorite green lady. The whole sky was lighted up by powerful green aurora.

It snowed so much last night.  We were gonna take the bus and it was a hell of a walk to the bus stop through the snow. We are now back to our student housing but I am already missing Lyfjord and the stress free life there.

Snow came to Tromsø finally! It was so stormy last night but this morning I woke up to this.

We are still at the cabin.  Still no electricity. We figured out that for some reason,  the radiator works. So, it’s not cold anymore.

View from my window this afternoon was lovely when the weather turned grey and the mountains disappeared.

We spent time playing magic the gathering.

Project Happiness 365: Day 347

We are in a cabin trip at Lyfjord.  There was a short circuit. We realized to our horror that if we hadn’t come here today this place might have burnt down. We turned off the main switch so, there is no electricity.

We light up some candles and made some fire. It’s quite cozy. It’s like we traveled back in time when people actually lived like this in this place.  It also reminds me of Nepal when we have loadshedding.

Sometimes my mind wants to be away from all the humdrum and stress of being socially involved. It feels very calm here. I really needed this break.

Project Happiness 365: Day 301

Last night we had a midnight pancake party.  It was a lot of fun. We played Magic the gathering. Little sis loved it. Even though she’s just 11, she is way clever for her age. And the deck we bought for her was so good. So, she crushed me with his help.

We climbed a mountain and watched the view from the top in the afternoon.  I am extremely blessed to celebrate my birthday with lovely people.

We came back from the cabin.  Living for three days with little sis was amazing.

The bus we took back home waited for 38 minutes at Skulsfjord. I got off from the bus while he and little sister stayed in playing games on their phones. I was just strolling by the sea when I met three very cute Norwegian kids. They just came and asked: ‘Hva heter du?’ (what is your name?) I speak negligible Norwegian but I managed to answer their questions. I had a nice time chatting with them.  The view was breathtaking.  I said goodbye to them after a while.

This year’s birthday was also very special.
P.S. One year ago, this day, I had my spiritual awakening.  So, cheers for the memory of that day!

We are spending some beautiful time at the cabin, away from all the hustle and bustle. We are catching up with each other. It’s been quite nice. So, I have not used that much of Internet. It’s a nice rejuvenating time.

The skyscape is beautiful.  Sun is playing hide and seek. It’s been raining too. It’s very calm living near the sea.

I am in love with doodling.  Nowadays, my mind is filled with ideas of what I want to doodle on my sketch book.  Stippling is my favourite technique. Spending my time to dot along an outline is quite meditative. Those tiny dots come together to create something unique. Call me narcissistic, but I really love going through my drawings.  It gives me more inspiration. My stiples aren’t that grand yet, I am still practicing.

It’s been raining since yesterday so, we’ve indoors. Here’s a little mandala inspired piece I drew last night. 😊

The lesson for today is never attempt to make namkeen in the oven. I tried and failed miserably.  It became like dry biscuits.  Oh! I was smart enough not to bake everything. I had to resort to the usual method of frying. It turned out good.

Last night my window was like a canvas. The skyscape changed dramatically and so did seascape. It’s beautiful living near sea. I had always been ‘not a big fan’ of water bodies and I definitely did not dream of living in the house by the sea. But here I am, living in this cabin by the sea and it has been very amazing.  I can just watch the changing colors and movement of water and let the day pass by.
